The Woodcut Bowlsaver MAX3 is the large version of the Woodcut bowl cutter, which has been tried and tested for more than 20 years. It has 3 semicircular blades, each equipped with Stellite cutting edges. Diameters from 75mm to 450mm can be cut out.
A bowl cutter is used to cut out one or more bowl blanks from a wooden bowl that has been prepared on the back. This makes it possible to obtain several usable bowls from one piece of wood without the entire interior having to be machined. The Woodcut bowl cutter is a safe system, as it is supported twice in the lower part of the hand rest and also in the tailstock. The exchangeable blades rest on a semicircular disc and are moved into the workpiece with a handle. This means that the turner's hands are not directly on the tool, but on the lever of a support-like device.
Because the entire device can be moved sideways, deep, flat and bulbous blanks can be cut out. The possibility of aligning the device to the wood shape on the lathe with millimeter precision means that it is possible to determine exactly where the cutting edge arrives at the bottom of the wooden blank, or how thick the bottom of the bowl will be.
The Woodcut bowl cutter can be used on any hand lathe that is sturdy and has a motor of at least 1.5 kW. The mount in the tailstock is provided with an MT2 spigot. The stellite blades have a service life of up to 500 bowl blanks, depending on the type of wood. They can be sharpened with a diamond file. We then offer the exchange of the blades.
The MAX3 is also suitable for use on the VB36 head lathe in conjunction with a short or long bed. A MK3 / MK2 reducing sleeve is required for fastening in the tailstock quill.
