Drill chuck for wood lathe

Drill chucks on the lathe are divided into two types. The conventional gear rim drill ch ucks and the quick-action chucks are used. The drill chuck is mounted on the lathe via an insertion pin with Morse taper on the quill or spindle. With the help of this chuck, various drills, e.g. twist dr ills or art and Forstner drills from Famag and Zobo can be accommodated. For the manufacture of cans, pens and spice mills you can not do without a reliable drill chuck.

TWO TYPES OF DRILL CHUCKS FOR THE LATHE

Drill chucks are named differently depending on the clamping system. In the sprocket type drill chuck, the tools are clamped with a wrench.
In addition, there are also drill chucks for the lathe where the clamping works completely without a key, the so-called quick-action drill chucks. Both drill chucks are suitable for both forward and reverse operation. In addition, these drill chucks for the lathe are impact drill resistant.

THE GEAR RIM DRILL CHUCK

In this classic chuck, the drill is clamped by drill chuck key. It is named after the typical notches that run around the chuck. They run around the drill chuck and hold the tool firmly in the clamped state. A small disadvantage: To clamp the drill, you must always have the appropriate clamping wrench at hand. Opening and closing the clamping jaws also takes a little longer.

The quick-action drill chuck

On the wood lathe, the quick-action drill chuck is extremely popular with professionals and hobby woodturners. The drill bit can be clamped in this drill chuck for the wood lathe without an additional wrench. The drill chuck is simply tightened and loosened by hand and clamps tools from 1 to 13 mm. So if you need to frequently switch between different diameters when drilling, this chuck is ideal.

Drill chuck mortise pin

To be able to mount the drill chuck on the lathe, a mortise pin with Morse taper MK1, MK2 or MK3 is required. We offer the appropriate tang depending on the internal taper on the type of drill chuck and lathe.

If the tailstock or headstock of your lathe has an MK2 or MK3 internal taper, the MK2 / MK3 ice taper tang can accommodate any of our gear rim drill chucks and quick-action drill chucks with B16 internal taper. On smaller lathes with internal taper MK1 on spindle or quill, only the quick-action drill chuck 0.0 - 8 mm with taper B12 can be accommodated via the insertion pin MK1.
