Turned parts made of wood play a more important role in daily life than it may seem at first. Neither the age of plastics nor other technical developments have been able to diminish the importance of wood as a material. This is not only the case in wooden construction and furniture manufacturing, but also in wooden toys, jewelry and fashion, technical utensils, elegant or rustic dining tables, etc. This great demand for turned wood parts could never be covered by hand-turners. Therefore, since the beginning of the last century, there have been machine developments to help the woodworker meet this mass demand.

However, to this day there is no machine that could replace the versatility of hand turning. Therefore, the appropriate machine or automatic lathe must be found out or developed for the specific task at hand.

The basis for determining a suitable machine is always the shape and dimensions of the turned part to be produced. Of course, we try to cover as wide a range of possibilities as possible. There is no such thing as a machine that can do everything. It would certainly not make sense to try to develop such a machine.

The selection of the most suitable machine for the respective application should be made on the basis of the turning samples and in a consultation meeting on site. As DRECHSELZENTRUM ERZGEBIRGE we have the competence for this and are happy to advise you and since taking over the know-how, competence, machines and some employees of the company WEMA Werkzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH in July 2018, we manufacture these machines ourselves in our own machine building company steinert® Maschinenbau: www.steinert-maschinenbau.de.

In October 2020 we took over the company hapfo® Maschinenbau (formerly gh-tec) from Mindelheim. In addition to the proven machine program of hapfo® and the production know-how from 45 years of history hapfo® we may also welcome the former owner and managing director Bernhard Katzenschwanz in our team.
