In this category you will find the different variants of the traditional lathe chuck for hammering in the wooden scantling. The bung chuck and the eureka chuck are the most popular designs for classic "flying" woodturning.

Grooved bung chucks - Made in the Ore Mountains

Bung chucks are widely used stop chucks. Made from a single piece of stainless steel, they can easily withstand even the toughest of fence work. We manufacture these stop chucks in our own machine shop and our name stands for quality and reliability. Our models are equipped with additional transverse grooves in the bung cone. These grooves in the cone ensure an even better grip and safe working. The chucks are available in sizes from Ø 20 mm to Ø 75 mm. The thread of the stop chuck corresponds to the standard M33 mountings. However, we offer the option of custom-made products depending on the lathe and spindle thread.

Heureka chuck with forged rings

The Heureka chuck is fitted with 2 or 3 forged rings. When the scantling is hammered in, these sharp rings penetrate a few millimetres into the wood and thus ensure a secure hold. Here too, the basic version is designed for all spindle threads in M33 and special designs are possible.

Notes on the stop chuck

A machine with a counter-pressure bearing on the spindle is required for classic scantling directly on the lathe. This bearing arrangement is rarely found on today's machines. There is a risk of damaging the spindle bearing when fence work is carried out on lathes without a counter-pressure bearing. Therefore, check your machine before you start fence work. If the machine is not designed for this, the fence process must be carried out on the individual chuck, separately from the machine.
