Face plate ring

The Axminster SK88 faceplate ring is compatible with the SK88 Essential Chuck and the type E dovetail jaws. The face plate ring has an internal chamfer that matches the dovetail of the SK88 dovetail jaws.

The face disc ring enables easy fastening of shell blanks, panels and the like to ensure a firm hold of the blank during turning. It is attached to the wood with wood screws that are slid over the jaws of the chuck, with the jaws opening into the ring to hold the blank in place. Using a faceplate ring means that the chuck does not need to be removed from the lathe during faceplate turning.

As the Essential SK88 chuck and jaws are made from EN1A steel, we recommend spraying the chuck lightly with dry lubricant on a regular basis to prevent tarnishing. You should do this more often if you are working in a damp workshop or working on wet wood.
