Note on recommended hole diameter: the outside diameter of the hanger bolt is 7.0 mm (approx. 5.5 mm core diameter). This results in only 0.25 mm engagement of the threads in the wood. For handles made of long wood this usually results in sufficient strength. A smaller hole would only lead to high force required for screwing in. In the case of handles made of cross-grain wood, smaller holes may cause the hanger bolt to crack the wood, and the strength is usually sufficient here as well. With different types of wood or, for example, with bush-hammered wood, it may be necessary to select a smaller hole diameter (6.0 mm). In the case of high-quality wood, it is advisable to use a remnant piece to test whether the hanger bolt will hold and the wood will not crack or tear.
