The Axminster Woodturning Essential SK88 is the perfect chuck for anyone who wants to start woodturning.

The SK88 is the smallest chuck in the Axminster chuck programme. With a diameter of 88 mm, it is very handy and ideal for smaller woodturning lathes or for use in demonstrations at markets.

This starter set is supplied with type E dovetail top jaws, a face plate ring and a screw chuck insert. This allows many different workpieces to be securely fastened to the lathe.
The dovetail jaws provide a stable and secure hold for your workpiece with an internal and external grip. The face plate ring can be used to attach bowl blanks to the chuck. The screw chuck insert clamps into the jaws and is designed to bite into the workpiece and is perfect for holding smaller projects.

The chuck body, including the thread, is made from one piece, maximising concentricity and minimising vibration during use.

A range of smaller top jaws has been specially developed for the SK88. See accessories. The dimensions of the base jaws, i.e. the web and threaded holes, correspond to the Axminster standard. This means that larger top jaws from the Axminster programme can also be mounted on the SK88.

The Axminster Essential chuck is made from EN1A steel, making it a cheaper alternative to other stainless steel chucks and a great entry level option for those starting out in woodturning.

We recommend spraying the chuck lightly with a dry lubricant on a regular basis to prevent tarnishing. You should do this more often if you are working in a damp workshop or turning wet wood.
