Info on nominal dimensions of Henry Taylor bowl gouges:
Bowl gouges from the manufacturer Henry Taylor are given nominal dimensions. For example, these nominal dimensions are 13 ½" mm.
The nominal dimension is not the diameter, but indicates the distance from one side of the flute to the opposite outside dimension of the tool. Accordingly, the diameter of the shell tube is larger than the nominal dimension. For example, a tube with a nominal dimension of 13 ½" has a diameter of 16 mm. See schematic figure.
