Product information "Woodturning Probes with Carbide Cutter"

These hollowing tools from the Axminster Evolution series are the ideal choice for hollowing boxes, small hollow forms, smoking figures and turning small bowls and plates. With a shank diameter of 12.7 mm (1/2 inch), they fit perfectly into the Axminster Evolution woodturning handle.

The tools are equipped with a small round carbide cutter with a diameter of 8 mm. The 300 mm long shank tapers in the last 75 mm towards the cutting end. This allows better access in small openings of hollow forms.

The sharp carbide cutting edge is ready for use and offers a longer service life compared to conventional HSS cutting inserts. If the cutting edge eventually loses its sharpness, it can be rotated by about 120 degrees to use the rear sharp side. This extends the life of the sharp cutting edge threefold. Replacement cutting plates are also available as accessories.

Two variants of this tool are available. Please select.

The straight tool is suitable for hollowing open forms.
The offset tool allows better access for undercutting a hollow shape, such as a vase with a small opening and an undercut inner shape.

Key features:

  • Perfect tool for turning cans, goblets and other small hollow shapes
  • 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) shank, 300 mm long
  • Tapered end for better access
  • 2 versions available: straight and cranked
  • Solid, fine-grained carbide insert for long life
  • Easy rotation in case of bluntness to get a new sharp cutting edge
  • Full 360° of cutting edge available
