Please note that the hand-forged tools of the brand "Neuhammer" are delivered without a handle. Handles in various lengths are linked below.
Compared to industrially manufactured mass products, it should be noted that dimensions and shape show slight fluctuations, which are due to the manufacturing technology of the artisanal forging. In addition, the shape and sharpness of the cutting edge are not yet ready for use with new tools. All tools must first be sharpened, this enables the shape of the cutting edge to be corrected according to individual requirements (influencing factors such as type of wood, workpiece shape and the like).
Application: Belly hooks are used for turning the inner shape of long wood work (end grain) but also for finishing cross wood work. They are comparable to the ring steels from England and Sweden, but have the advantage that they chip better. For turning hollow forms in end grain they are easier to handle than turning hooks.
Sharpening: These tools are sharpened from the inside, usually with a grinding cone or thin grinding wheels.
Working method: After the workpiece has been turned round, the face is cut off cleanly (with the chisel). Then the centre is punched and a hole is drilled (diameter larger than the hook size and advantageously almost to the final depth).
The attachment can first take place “scraping”, ie the cutting edge is swiveled completely to the left (the hook points with the opening upwards) and then the cutting edge is turned clockwise upwards during the work process. (from 9am to 12pm).
